Building And Scheme Investigation

Building and scheme investigation

The Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017 requires owners of ‘relevant buildings’ to have a FENZ-approved evacuation scheme. Is your building a ‘relevant building’ or a ‘procedures only’ building?

Let FireLink determine what your building requires by carrying out a building inspection. If a scheme is needed, FireLink can ask FENZ what they have on file and request copies of any documentation.

Once we understand what’s required and what is or isn’t in place, we can move to the next stage.

Evacuation Scheme Creation And Submission

Evacuation scheme creation and submission

If a FENZ-approved scheme is required, FireLink will provide a detailed quote for creating a scheme and submitting an official application to FENZ.

Then from quote to acceptance to FENZ and implementing your new scheme, FireLink will take care of all the work for you.

Trial Evacuations

Trial evacuations

If conducting trial evacuations is the method chosen to maintain your scheme, FireLink will:

  • Schedule a suitable time and date with property management and key tenants.
  • Notify FENZ and any contractors that may be required to attend the evacuation.
  • Conduct and monitor the scheduled trial evacuation.
  • Carry out a thorough debrief with wardens following the evacuation.
  • Prepare and distribute a comprehensive trial evacuation report to property management, building tenants, and FENZ.

Note: Trial evacuations can coincide with a full building systems test. A full building systems test is often undertaken before a building warrant of fitness anniversary.

Fire Warden And Staff Training

Fire warden and staff training

Trained and confident wardens can make all the difference during a fire evacuation. FireLink’s face-to-face fire warden training is building-specific and provides wardens with all the details and information needed to carry out their responsibilities.

Face-to-face fire warden training can be catered to any number of wardens to suit your individual building needs, with the training covering the following:

  • Tenant responsibilities under the FENZ Regulations 2018
  • Fire safety systems within the building – including a building fire safety familiarisation
  • Chief warden, warden and staff duties before and during a fire evacuation
  • Procedures for persons who require assistance during an evacuation
  • After-hours fire evacuation procedures

Note: FireLink recognises that it isn’t only wardens with responsibilities relating to fire evacuations. It is everyone in the workplace. If you feel staff or management need upskilling in fire evacuation procedures, contact FireLink to arrange some specified evacuation training for the rest of your staff.
